More Information
I have been advising high net worth families since 1998 when I began my career in the Private Client Services division at Goldman Sachs. It was while I was working with a divorcing celebrity couple who were clients of mine at the time that I realized there was a need for someone to work with wealthy clients and their attorneys to consult on their complex financial situations during a divorce. I first obtained the CDFA (Certified Divorce Financial Analyst) designation in 2005 while I was a Private Wealth Advisor in the Merrill Lynch Private Banking group working with clients of $10 million or more. At the time I co-founded with 2 other advisors the "Divorce Wealth Planning" initiative, which launched an informal network of financial advisors within Merrill Lynch who were well-versed in the intricacies of divorce. We assisted in making internal referrals and educating attorneys about the importance of utilizing financial experts in the divorce process. In addition to reacquiring the CDFA designation this year, I also hold the Certified Private Wealth Advisor (CPWA) designation which is awarded to financial advisors with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the high net worth space who have passed a rigorous curriculum and exam set forth by the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and the Investments and Wealth Institute (formerly IMCA). I am currently a Wealth Manager at BNY Mellon Wealth Management in White Plains which has a dedicated national practice group for family law. As a firm, we actively support the ABA and AAML associations in order to assist family law attorneys, and we publish high quality thought leadership pieces (whitepapers) written by national experts about divorce and its financial implications. (Please see some of the material on under the strategy category "wealth planning for divorce.") We feel our fiduciary approach allows us to work with clients and their advisors both pre- and post-divorce to provide valuable insights on risk, cash flow, investments and property issues. I am passionate about helping people who are going through this dramatic life transition, and helping them to understand the value of building a well-rounded team around them to navigate the process. I also have a unique perspective when working with women going through a divorce who may have given up their careers when they married or had children, as I was fortunate to have taken a break from my career to be a stay-at-home mother to my 2 children.
